ABOUT THE ROLE

The Press Feeder feeds paper into our sheet-fed presses and supports the Press Operator in producing high-quality printed products efficiently and safely. This role maintains a continuous supply of stock, monitors quality throughout production runs, and assists with press setup and changeovers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Load and prepare paper stock for sheet-fed press operations.
  • Maintain proper stock alignment and feeding throughout production runs.
  • Verify paper type, size, grain direction, and quantity according to job specifications.
  • Interact with the press schedule and job tickets.
  • Assist Press Operators with press setup, makereadies, wash-ups, and job changeovers.
  • Monitor print quality and identify potential production issues.
  • Produce quality printed materials in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Follow pressroom procedures for control sheets, charging time and materials, load tags, FSC stock, and samples.
  • Perform necessary maintenance on presses and equipment.
  • Perform prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required by maintenance schedules.
  • Use and maintain the Image Control unit.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, including pallet jacks and lifts.
  • Accurately complete production documentation and quality checks.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Maintain presses, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturing best practices.
  • Proactively identify and solve problems before they arise.
  • Work collaboratively with Press Operators, supervisors, and production teams to meet production schedules.
  • Use basic computer skills to support production activities.
  • Interact with pressroom clients in a professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in print production, manufacturing, or a similar role requiring mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of printing presses preferred; experience with sheet-fed offset printing equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow job tickets, production instructions, and quality specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible shifts as needed.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged standing for up to eight hours.
  • Frequent walking, stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Frequent sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, and reaching.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works on the production floor in an industrial warehouse setting.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
